Road Trip to Colorado

Shadow of our vehicle as we traverse Texas.
This Christmas we decided to not buy an abundance of gifts and put the gift money toward a trip to Colorado.
E on the trip.
O on the trip.
So, we set off with a destination being a city named Avon, a ski town about two hours west of Denver. The total drive was about 13 hours.

Typical Texas farm land.
The landscape through Texas at this point is flat with the majority being farm land. We made it to Amarillo Texas around dinner time and ate at The Big Texan.

The Big Texan sign.
This place is well known because they serve a 72 oz. steak and if you can eat it in an hour, including the sides, it's free.We didn't do this.

My wife and I visited The Big Texan before, but it was the first for our daughters.

We were hoping to visit the Cadillac Ranch, but it was dark and we wouldn't be able to see it very well. We made it up to Dumas, Texas the first day and spent the night there.

When we woke up, we continued on our way. One of the sights that I was amazed at was the amount of Canada Geese. They were everywhere.

As we drove along, the landscape began to change when we entered New Mexico.

We also passed the Capulin Volcano, an extinct volcano, that we didn't know existed there.

If we had more time, we would've stopped there.

On the east side of Hwy. 25, you will see the U.S. flag every half mile or so until Waldenburg.

We finished our road trip and made it up to Avon after two days.

If you decide to drive through these parts, I would suggest adding time for some of the interesting places along the way.
